Making here

Exploring an interconnected value chain in the Melbourne textile community, this ongoing photo story captures makers within their practice environments. The story documents the skills, mediums and materials of makers.

Through a lens of observation, curiosity and respect, I aim to capture the profound connection between these makers and their materials, which in turn, produces the clothing so interconnected with our lives. This documentation is ongoing for me and delves into what is often unseen in this industry— the people, processes, passion, speciality skills and the many hands who touch the fibres and cloth that become our clothes. Makers play a vital role not only in creating the clothes we wear, but in shaping the future of small scale production as well as the preservation and passing of skills. Through this series, I hope to share their stories, which are deeply connected to personal passion and knowledge of materials and processes. I hope this can be an inspiration to people inside the industry and out, to respect and care for the things made by Makers like these.

Thank you to each maker who has shared their time, skills, processes and thoughts with me. This project is ongoing, if you would like to be involved, or know someone who would like to be documented please reach out.
